Harnett
County, North Carolina offers
over 600 square miles of rural living in
friendly, small-town communities, while
being within an easy commute to the
state's bustling urban regions.
Located in the south-central portion of
the state, Harnett County extends into
both the Piedmont and the Coastal regions of North
Carolina.
Ideally situated for economic
opportunities, Harnett County lies
between the Raleigh-Durham
Metropolitan Area to the north and the
thriving city of Fayetteville
to the south. The internationally
renowned Research
Triangle Park, home to over
one hundred research and development
firms, is less than an hour's commute.
Interstates 95 and 40 run through
Harnett County, as do US Routes 301,
421, and 401, giving firms easy access
to regional as well as national markets.
Two airports lay less than an hour's
drive from the county seat of Lillington:
the Raleigh
Durham International Airport
and the Fayetteville
Airport.
According to the 2000 Census, Harnett
County's population was over 91,000,
spread throughout the rural region and
nine towns and municipalities. The
city of Dunn
is the largest, with just over 10,000
people. Designated an All-American
City, Dunn's strong economy
is supported by agriculture,
distribution, manufacturing and tourism.
The city is home to thirty churches, as
well as Heritage
Bible College and Foundations
Bible College, reflecting the
importance that faith plays in Dunn's
residents’ lives. The North Carolina Cotton Festival is
enjoyed here each year, drawing patrons
from all over Harnett County and beyond.
The town of Erwin contains
just under 5,000 people, and used to
hold the title of "Denim Capital of
the World," having been formed
around a vital cotton mill in 1903. The
Denim Days Festival comes each October,
celebrating the town's past and
showcasing local arts and crafts.
The town of Angier
is experiencing a spurt of economic
growth, with many new businesses
discovering this tight-knit community of
less than 4,000 residents. The
town literally blooms with the annual Crepe
Myrtle Celebration and its
yearly golf
tournament is a huge success.
Kipling, Coates, Buies Creek, Duncan and
Averasboro are all tiny communities of
less than 2,000 people in Harnett
County.
The county seat, Lillington, is a
lovely town nestled on the banks of the
picturesque Cape
Fear River. This
community of 3,000 prides itself on
strong family values and its outstanding
quality of life. All of Harnett
County's residents enjoy the area's
moderate year-round climate, and outdoor
activities abound in this scenic region.
The amazing Raven
Rock State Park in Lillington
contains a stunning crystalline
structure that rises upwards over
150 feet and stretches more than a mile
along the river. The park is known
for its diversity of wildflowers, as
well as being an excellent spot to fish
or cano.
Harnett County's Central
Carolina's Community College,
located in Buie's Creek, contains the
only laser and fiber-optics laboratory
in the southeast, and provides excellent
education for county residents, along
with Campbell
University. Twelve
other colleges and universities are
found within an hour's drive.
Harnett County, North Carolina promises
safe and peaceful rural living, as well

of the urban metropolises surrounding
